For a reason, the Open Sky roof rack floor has no crossbars. Reduce as much weight as possible while holding fast to a 300 lb. dynamic cargo load rating for safe on- and off-road driving and an 800 lb. static cargo load rating for rooftop tents and occupants. While the Gobi roof rack can easily carry twice its load limit, safety must be considered, (see the safety guidelines tab above for roof rack cargo weight ratings and why). The fully installed, fully welded Open Sky roof rack, wind deflector, crossbars, support brackets, and all hardware weigh in at 65 lbs. The industry’s strongest roof rack allows you to build your rack quickly. If today’s off-road trip doesn’t require a tent as your plans are for photography, add roof rack inserts one, two, or three for total rack coverage. If you drive around town for a few months before your next outing, remove all the inserts and accessory crossbars to drive a more weight-conscious, gas-saving ride.
