The Open Sky roof rack floor has no cross bars for a reason. Reduce as much weight as possible while holding fast to a 300 lb. dynamic cargo load rating for safe on and off road driving and 800 lb. static cargo load rating for roof top tents and occupants. While the Gobi roof rack can easily carry twice its load limit safety must be taken into account, (see the safety guidelines tab above for roof rack cargo weight ratings and why). The fully installed fully welded Open Sky roof rack, wind deflector, cross bars, support brackets and all hardware weighs in at 65 lbs. The strongest roof rack in the industry now gives you the option to build your rack needs on the fly. If today’s off-road trip doesn’t need a tent as your plans are photography, then add roof rack inserts one, two or three for total rack coverage. If you are driving around town for a few months before your next outing, remove all the inserts and accessory cross bars to drive a more weight conscious gas saving ride.
